Yoga to Improve Lifestyle and Eliminate Stress

From the time we open our eyes in the morning to the time we get back to sleep, life is a continuous fight these days either with circumstances, issues, attitudes or unexpected events. From traffic jams in our email inboxes to traffic jams on the road, we are forever jammed to our throats with something or the other that by design or circumstances, causes stress. We can and should take things into our system and stride. But can we do it all the while…and all of it?? Most likely, the answer to both is a resounding NO! Stress to a point is healthy and keeps us on our toes. Beyond that, stress is very, very counterproductive and can cause much, much damage.

One way out of all this stress of living be it affecting our body, our mind or our soul is to wholeheartedly accept Yoga into our lifestyle and see change taking place first-hand.

Hi, I am Dr Madhura Bhide of Recova Life and today I shall tell you why and how Yoga is good for your health, body, mind and soul all rolled in!

1. It relaxes the body like nothing else!
The body relaxes when it is put through its paces and brought back to its original state with relaxation and stretches! And yoga, thankfully has plenty of it! Best if all, most of yogic poses like “Pranayama” or the “Sun Salutation” has everything rolled into one! You exert, stretch, exercise and relax over the course of just one form of exercise. With so many of postures, positions, aasanas and rigours to cater to practically every form of physical state, there is not a single soul on Earth who is likely to be left out of its positive effects! No other form of exercise anywhere in the world can boast of this one accomplishment.

2. It relaxes the subconscious mind too!
Stress beyond a point continues to trouble- even when the reason for the same ceases to exist. Work-related target for one. Even after every target is met (or even when more than met!), the feeling of being under stress continues given that our minds get conditioned to a certain way of functioning and lifestyle. Meditation, a form of yoga, and very central to all its teachings and advices, is the one thing which if practiced the right way, gets rid of most mental stresses. By making one aware of how shallow we breathe and what you concentrate on while thinking, yoga teaches us to concentrate all energies to the central and most important part of any issue/ problem while leaving everything else aside. With such clarity of mind, deep breathing and focus, the mind is quickly brought to a calm state from where logical and rational thinking is quite a possibility.

3. Yoga for correct breathing – whatever be your existing situation!
One of the most pernicious of effects of being under stress is that we breathe very, very incorrectly, inconsistently and inadequately. Realize that we live because we breathe and if we breathe less or incorrectly, we lose out on living life the right way.

Yoga with its unwavering stress on breathing in the right manner, right from the diaphragm sees to it from day-one that breathing is correct and breathing is enough to take care of all of the body’s needs in the best possible manner.

4. Establish a connect between body, mind and the subconscious!
In our stressful daily lives, we hardly find the time for our bodies to obey what the mind commands and there is hardly any unison between the conscious and the subconscious. With the calming effect of yoga, our senses go to a different, heightened state where the mind, devoid of every distraction, picks up the faintest clue that comes from the body. With the mind being focussed to live in the present and blinkers being put on the past and the future, maximum focus is on the present and that too, to that moment. Consciously, we take the efforts to listen to our own selves!

5. Knowing and gauging one’s own thoughts and responses!

This, could be the MOST IMPORTANT of all the benefit that Yoga presents! Most of us go through life like machines not once caring to see if our thoughts and responses to situations can somehow be managed and/ or changed. With the rigors of Yoga upon us, this is one thing that we learn. We learn to either perform with full consciousness of mind and body or not perform at all. Within these rigors of Yoga, one gets to learn that responses to situation, how-much-so-ever old and established, can be changed for the better with patience and practice. And most of all, it gives us a very, very  positive mindset!

6. Gaining the fine art (though anything but easy!) of releasing energies the right way!
Throughout our lives we life with suppressed emotions, mostly of the negative kinds like anger, guilt, jealousies and other similar inadequacies. Over time these start to affect our bodies and the way we function by interfering even in the way we breathe and digest food besides other issues cropping up like lowered interpersonal relations, inability to find and share liking etc. With yoga and all its rigours, we get to breathe right, stretch and be one with ourselves in more than one way. Slowly we learn the fine art of releasing not only energies but also negatives like those mentioned above. With time, we become better individuals given that we spend time with ourselves understanding our emotions AND finding right ways to release them!

These are but some of the obvious benefit of doing Yoga. There could be many. We shall try to bring them forth in our future blogs. Till then, you could visit our website www.recovalife.com or checkout #roadtorecova!
